Persona follows the gradual degeneration of two distinct personalities: Alama, an apparently well balanced and extrovert nurse, and Elisabeth, an actress in the throes of a nervous breakdown. Shame charts the collapse of humane social values in a war-ravaged country. This edition contains Ingmar Bergman’s autobiographical statement, ‘The Snakeskin’, written for the presentation of the Erasmus prize in Amsterdam in 1965.
