By (author) Shareef Al-Miqdad
About the Author:Shareef Al-Miqdād is a critical thinker and writer who speaks to the interconnectedness of the emotional, societal and environmental crises that humanity has been perpetrating for millennia in its communities, parliaments, battlefields, economies, workplaces, classrooms, homes and conscience.About the Book:Career, love, money, security, family, country, social cause, reform, revolution, ideology, entertainment, self-reinvention, purpose…Have you ever noticed how these things shape the years, decades and lifetime not only of a particular group but of humanity, right through old age, regardless of demographic, cultural, and professional differences? Have you ever noticed how we – we as the living, we as the ancestors, we as posterity (at least so far) – have been treading this exact same path across time, from generation to generation, century to century, without ever getting past that one common denominator: our own self-interests? And, around our self-interests, what kind of society have we built so far, besides splitting the atom, tablet computers and endless forms of old and new psycho-spiritual entertainment? Apart from technological progress, have we progressed at all? Is the world a better place, a safer place? Are we profoundly better, healthier people? Or, have we destroyed ourselves, each other and the world? Hasn’t our world been moving perpetually, everlastingly from one human crisis to the other…from extreme poverty, to pandemics, to global warming, to wars, to racism, to more subtle forms of social degradation such as in academia and the workplace, to even subtler, more insidious divisions inflicting our communities, our families and the very recesses of our minds? Long with me, dear friend, to go beyond our self-centered psychological needs, including self-righteous ones as awareness and self-actualization. For perhaps for the very first time, we may tap into the very origin of our self-inflicted crises and heed the gravity, nay calling of our time. At this critical juncture in human history, we must surely and urgently find out what it takes to bring about a level of cooperation unknown to humanity – the kind that penetrates all fields including relationship, education, diet, and environmental change – without which the world stands no chance. This is an invitation to free oneself from self-interest, nay psychology itself, in all its traditional and modern forms…right now…so that cooperation – of the unrestricted, global kind – can be possible and so that we may start building a new world right in the heart of our destructive society.About the Author:Shareef Al-Miqdād is a critical thinker and writer who speaks to the interconnectedness of the emotional, societal and environmental crises that humanity has been perpetrating for millennia in its communities, parliaments, battlefields, economies, workplaces, classrooms, homes and conscience.Career, love, money, security, family, country, social cause, reform, revolution, ideology, entertainment, self-reinvention, purpose…Have you ever noticed how these things shape the years, decades and lifetime not only of a particular group but of humanity, right through old age, regardless of demographic, cultural, and professional differences?
